Early Lead Not Enough In LumberKings' Loss to Normal

NORMAL, ILL.- The Clinton LumberKings could not hold on to an early 6-1 lead in a 7-6 loss to the Normal CornBelters.

After both teams scored in the first, the LumberKings took a big lead in the top half of the second inning. After four consecutive walks to start the inning, including an RBI walk from Trevor Burkhart (LSU-Shreveport), Taeg Gollert (Missouri St) drove in two, with his second double of the game. Now leading 4-1, the LumberKings added more in the inning. Cade Moss (Iowa) singled in two of his own to help the LumberKings take the 6-1 advantage.

Normal chipped away throughout the ball game. Scoring singular runs in every inning but the third.

Trailing 6-5 in the seventh, Xavier Watson (Illinois) tripled in Zach Goodman (Webster University) to tie the game at six.

One inning later the CornBelters grabbed the lead. With Taeg Gollert on the mound, Pinch hitter Peyton Meredith (Saint Leo University) roped an RBI double to give Normal the 7-6 advantage.

Clinton would go down in order in the top of the ninth, losing to the CornBelters 7-6.

On the mound for the LumberKings, Seth Clausen (Minnesota) got the start. The righty went five innings and gave up just two earned runs.
