LumberKings Sting Bees On Monday Night

CLINTON, Iowa.- The Clinton LumberKings opened up the August Schedule with a 10-4 win over the Burlington Bees. 

 

Clinton started things off with four runs in the first. Luke Ira (South  Dakota St) drove in a run on a groundout, Taeg Gollert (Missouri St) doubled in two runs and Connor Giusti made it 4-0 with an RBI single. 

 

In the top of the third inning Kevin Santiago (Texas Wesleyan) homered over the centerfield wall, a three-run homer to bring the Clinton advantage down to one.

 

The LumberKings responded instantly in the bottom of the inning. Gollert drove in another run with a triple, scoring Kyle Lehmann (USC-Upstate) and extending the lead to 5-3. Gollert ended a home run shy of the cycle on the night. Later in the inning Nick Fleckenstein (Lassen CC) drove in Gollert on a fielder's choice and Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) drove in a run on a fielder's choice as well to make it 7-3.

 

Kevin Santiago hit another homer in the fifth inning, a solo homer and his second of the night. 

 

Clinton did not look back and won the game 10-4 after scoring more in the fifth and sixth. 

 

On the mound Jared Simpson (Iowa) was the highlight out of the bullpen for Clinton. The lefty struck out four in two innings and finished off the game. James Burke (South Suburban) picked up his second win of the season in a start over five innings. 

 

The next LumberKings game is on Wednesday night against the Alton River Dragons at NelsonCorp Field starting at 6:30 p.m.
