Bees Drop Game 2 to Gems

Bees Drop Game 2 to Gems

In the second game of the opening Prospect League series Quincy wound up on top of a seesaw battle in a game where the teams combined to leave 21 runners on base.

Burlington opened the scoring in the second inning.  Designated Hitter Ryan Grace led off with a ground single to center.  Charlie Terrill and Brady Logan followed with walks to load the bases. Fielder's choices from Tucker Cole and Trey Adams plated two runs to give the Bees a 2-0 lead.

The Gems answered immediately in the top of the third, scoring three runs on five hits off starter Garrett Moltzan.

Burlington tied the game at three in their half of the inning on singles by AJ Henkle, Kevin Santiago and Terrill.

The Bees, on three hits and a Gems error, retook the lead scoring four runs in the home fifth. Grace worked a one out walk to get things going.  Terrill singled to right making it first and third.  Quincy replaced Jax Howard with Cael Kolacia on the mound.

Brady Logan pounded a Kolacia pitch into the dirt in front of the plate.  Catcher Otto Jones hurried his throw to first and the ball sailed into right field.  Grace scored and the Bees had runners on second and third.  A wild pitch, coupled with singles from Cole and Sam Monroe pushed two unearned runs across.  Burlington led 7-3.

It stayed that way until the top of the eighth, when Quincy battered relievers Nick Tampa and Jaxon Ingram for five runs on four hits to tip the game in their favor 8-7.

That is how it would end.  Kolacia earned the win.  Ingram took the loss.
