River Dragons Top 'Shoes 7-6 On Opening Night

Alton Ill. - Noah Bush scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Alton River Dragons a 7-6 win over the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes at Lloyd Hopkins Field on Wednesday night. The victory is the first in team history in which they scored they game winning run in their final at bat.

After Springfield had tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the inning, Bush led off the bottom of the eighth by reaching via a hit by pitch.  He stole second and advanced to third on Blake Stenger's sacrifice bunt.  He eventually scampered home on a wild pitch putting the River Dragons up 7-6.

Bush then came on for the save in the top of the ninth and sealed the win with three strikeouts and stranding a pair of Springfield runners on base.

Blake Burris had a memorable night, with a hit and driving in two runs.  In the field, the centerfielder made two diving catches, threw out one runner at home plate and also nabbed a runner at second base.

The River Dragons are back home Thursday at 6:35pm against the defending Prospect League champion Cape Catfish.
