LumberKings Fall In Close Affair With CornBelters

NORMAL, Ill. - After splitting the series in Quincy, the Clinton LumberKings traveled to the "Corn Crib" to take on the Normal CornBelters on Sunday evening.

It started off well for the LumberKings. After a Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) double, and a Jeremy Conforti (College of DuPage) single, Chase Becker (University of Minnesota) drove in Petersen with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 in the first.

The CornBelters would tie it up in the bottom half of the first scoring one off of LumberKings' starter Jackson Kent (University of Arizona).

In the third frame the LumberKings and CornBelters traded runs and take it into the middle innings tied at two.

In the sixth inning Normal would take the lead for the first time making it 3-2 after an RBI base hit from first baseman Jared Comia (University of Illinois) off of Jacob Norris (Des Moines Area CC).

Clinton answered, tying the ball game up at three with a Rayth Petersen RBI double scoring Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) in the top half of the seventh inning.

Once again, the opposition responded. Normal took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single from left fielder Ben Higgins (Purdue Fort Wayne).

The LumberKings fought in the ninth, loading the bases up. However, Clinton could not capitalize and suffered the loss 4-3 in Normal.

The LumberKings now return home and will take on the Quincy Gems at NelsonCorp Field tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
