O'Fallon Sweeps Clinton in Tuesday DH

FROM CLINTON:

O'FALLON, Mo. - It was hot and muggy on Tuesday evening as the Clinton LumberKings hit the road to take on the O'Fallon Hoots in a twin bill at CarShield Field.

In game one it was a wild affair between two teams that kept trading punches. Early on it was Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) who provided the offensive punch for Clinton. In both the third and fourth innings he went deep. In the third it was a two-run homer to left field and then in the fourth it was a three-run shot.

The LumberKings held the lead throughout, but O'Fallon battled back and tied the game in the seventh inning. The matchup went into extras and O'Fallon, after holding Clinton scoreless in the top half of the eighth, loaded the bases and won the ball game on a walk-off walk as Zak Hartleb (University of Illinois) drew the base on balls winning the game for the Hoots by a score of 10-9.

In game two, the offense was at a minimum for both clubs.

After falling behind early 2-0, the LumberKings inched back. In the fifth inning Adam Weed (University of Illinois Chicago) drove in a run with a single down the left field line pulling Clinton to within one.

O'Fallon would respond in the bottom half. Noah Fisher (Northern Kentucky University) pushed the lead back to two with a solo home run off LumberKings' starter Logan Romasanta (Morton College).

In the top half of the seventh Clinton pushed one more run across, but would ultimately come up short losing the game by a score of 3-2.

Clinton now looks forward to the Alton River Dragons tomorrow night in Alton, Ill.
