LumberKings Start Second Half With 17-Hit Win Over Burlington

CLINTON, Iowa - Opening night of the Prospect League second half went according to plan for the Clinton LumberKings. Riding 17 hits the LumberKings defeated the Burlington Bees at NelsonCorp Field 8-3. 
 
After the Burlington Bees took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning the LumberKings answered with seven unanswered runs.
 
It started with an RBI fielder's choice from Eddie Saucedo (Madison College) in the bottom half of the second making it 2-1 with Burlington still leading.
 
In the third Luke Ira (South Dakota St) doubled in Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) tying the game at two. Clinton quickly took the lead two batters later. Taeg Gollert (Missouri St) singled in Ira to make it 3-2. The winning run came in the form of a Nick Fleckenstein (Lassen CC) who singled in one more in the third inning. 
 
Clinton tallied four more runs in the 8-3 victory.
 
In the game Matt Scherrman led all hiters with four base hits and two RBIs. 
 
On the mound Nolan Frey (Mount Mercy) picked up the win in relief of Seth Clausen (Minnesota), his fourth of the season and Nick Scanlon (Kirkwood CC) finished the game with two innings of outstanding relief work. Scanlon went two innings and allowed just one hit.
 
The LumberKings are now 1-0 in the second half and will next play on Thursday evening, against the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp in Clinton, Iowa. 
 
It will be Camanche Night at NelsonCorp Field with the second Camanche-Dewitt Coalition & Mediacom Baseball Card Strip Give Away.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 P.M. Thursday night.
