Burke Dazzles, Ira Homers In Clinton Victory Tuesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Clinton LumberKings started a four day road trip with a 9-2 victory over Rex Baseball.
 
Clinton took the lead early and never looked back. In the first, a run scored for Clinton when Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) scored on an error from Rex' shortstop Parks Bouck (North Central Texas College). After one inning, Clinton led 1-0.
 
The LumberKings added two more in the top of the third inning. Jeremy Conforti (College of DuPage) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) knocked in another with a single.
 
After one run came across in the bottom of the third for the Rex, the LumberKings took control in the seventh inning. Luke Ira (South Dakota St) smashed his sixth homer of the year, a two-run shot, to make it 5-1 in favor of the LumberKings. In the inning, Kyle Lehmann (USC-Upstate) knocked in another with a single giving the LumberKings a 6-1 lead.
 
Clinton tallied two more in the contest and won the game 9-2.
 
James Burke (South Suburban College) made his second start of the year and was superb. He went six innings, allowed one run and earned his first win of the season. 
 
Clinton will take on Rex Baseball once again tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
