Burlington Bees Finish Season In Clinton

Clinton, IA - The cancellation of July 30's contest at Community Field forced a home-home double-header at NelsonCorp Field between the Clinton Lumberkings (34-21, 19-10) and the Burlington Bees (17-39, 11-16) July 31 to conclude both team's regular season.

The final scores of the game were 10-3 and 6-4 Burlington losses in two seven innings game,.

The Bees finish with an overall record of 17-39, being 13-15 at home, 4-24 away and 11-16 in the second half.

GAME 1:

Clinton's magic number to clinch the 2024 Prospect League Playoffs was one entering the day. The team did not waste any time securing their playoff spot.

The Lumberkings scored two in the second and five in the third to build an early seven run lead. Burlington got on the board in the bottom of the frame.

In his first appearance in the starting lineup, Luke Ramsey (Mount Mercy) began the inning with a single for his first Bees hit.

Jace Figuereo (Southeastern CC) walked to put two aboard. Jeremy Figueroa (Mt.Mercy University) flew out to move Ramsey to third.

Micheal Carrano Jr (Parkland College) hit a sacrifice fly to get the team on the board. He finished the season with five RBI's in eight games.

Figuereo caused havoc on the base pads. The Burlington native stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He concluded the year with eight stolen bases.

Merrick Mathews (University of Iowa) singled to bring him home. It was the Hawkeye's 20th RBI as a Bee. Burlington finished the inning trailing 7-2.

The Lumberkings scored one in each of the next three innings to pad their lead. The Bees got one back in the sixth.

Also in his first Bees start, Brady Kindhart (Maryville University) reached to start off the inning. He was hit by a pitch to get on and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

After two consecutive outs, Ramsey singled for his first Burlington RBI. The outfielder finished two for three with a run and RBI.

The Bees utilized two pitchers. Drew Wilcox (Kirkwood) tossed four innings in his second start. He allowed eight hits and runs to receive the loss.
Bryer Wiley (Center Point-Urbana) threw the final three and gave up two earned.

Tyler Welch for Clinton got the win.

The team had five hits and one error.

GAME 2:

Burlington began the final game of the season firing.

Figuereo opened it up with a hit in the first at-bat of the game. Two straight Bees went down in order to bring up Kindhart.

The infielder smashed the ball for his first homerun of the year in just two starts. It gave the team a 2-0 lead.

Kindhart went one for two with a run, two walks and RBIs.

With the two run lead, the team carried the momentum to the second.

Nick Meyer (Mt.Mercy University) walked to start it off. He finished with two walks to get to 18 on the year.

Logan Reidelberger (Drury University) singled to put Meyer on third. It was his second hit of the season.

Ramsey's good day continued with hitting into a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. He finished with two RBI's in six at-bats.

Clinton's answer was aggressive, putting up six in the bottom of the second. Zeros filled the scoreboard until the seventh. Burlington began a comeback in the final frame that came up short.

With one out, Bryce Brown (Mt.Mercy University) was hit by a pitch and stole second. Kindhart followed with a walk to put two on.

Now with two outs, Christian Dunn (Volunteer State) also walked to load the bases. Meyer walked in a run. He finished with 17 RBI's on the season.

A flyout ended the game with the final score of 6-4. Burlington had five hits and no errors.

Michael Schaul (Mt.Mercy University) got the start and allowed six over 3.2 with three strikeouts. He totaled 35 innings on the season with a 5.4 ERA.

Outfielder Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University) went for a shutout 2.1. He struck out two and allowed just one hit.

Burlington finished 2-10 against Clinton this season.
