Paints Win Rain-Soaked Game In Lafayette, 10-6

LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, snapped a three-game skid Tuesday night at windy, rainy Loeb Stadium, beating the Lafayette Aviators 10-6.

Nick Falter (1-0) started on the mound for Chillicothe (7-6), holding the Aviators off the board for the first two innings.

Meanwhile, the Paints' offense got busy in the top of the third, scoring three times, including a two-out, two-run single by Arturo Disla, giving Chillicothe a short-lived 3-0 lead.

Lafayette (6-6) answered in the bottom of the frame. With the wind and rain picking up, the Aviators took advantage of a Joe Olsavski triple, a pair of walks and a grand slam from James Jett, plating five runs and taking a 5-3 lead. Falter wouldn't surrender another run in his remaining two innings en-route to earning his first win of the season.

The Paints got one back in the in the top of the fourth, thanks to an error allowing Gavin Ganun to reach base, later scoring on a bases-loaded walk by brand-new Paint Drew Donaldson. Chillicothe tied the game at five with another run in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch.

In the top of the sixth, Donaldson signled with one out and walks to Caleb Vaughn and Tim Orr loaded the bases. Disla brought home another run on a fielder's choice, giving the Paints a 6-5 lead. The Paints made it 7-5 on James Nugent's RBI single, scoring Orr.

Chillicothe's bullpen took over in the sixth, Jackson Bergman came on, working a 1-2-3 inning and turning things back over to the offense.

Disla collected his fourth RBI of the night on a lead off home run in the top of the eighth, making it 8-5 Chillicothe.

Landon Vance replaced Bergman on the mound in the eighth, working a 1-2-3 inning.

Sammy Stoner started the ninth for Chillicothe with a lead off walk, Cameron Bowen followed with a single and Donaldson beat out the back end of a double play, allowing Stoner to score. Donaldson scored on a bases-loaded walk by Owen Wilson, making it 10-5.

Lafayette scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Chillicothe won the game 10-6.

Aviators pitchers walked 15 batters on the night.

Donaldson finished his Paints debut 2-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Vaughn, also making his debut this summer, finished 0-3 but walked three times and scored twice. Disla went 2-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Cameron Bowen also went 2-4, scoring twice. Orr, Nugent, Victor Figueroa, and Sammy Stoner each collected one hit. 

Chillicothe and Lafayette play again Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 100.9 WXIZ, ChillicothePaints.com and the Paints' free mobile app.
