Schnepf’s Rocky Start and Five Rockabillys Errors Lead to Loss at Burlington 17-4

JACKSON, Tenn.—On Wednesday night, the Goats lost to the Burlington Bees 17-4, due in part to five errors by the defense and nine earned runs given up by the pitching staff. The two teams played only seven innings because of poor air quality in Burlington.

Will Schnepf had a rough start for the Rockabillys, going only 1.1 innings and allowing ten runs on five hits. Roman Smith threw the next two innings and walked five Bees batters while giving up four runs. Riley Mertl recorded two outs but also gave up a homerun and two walks. Ethan Orwig hurled the final two innings for the Goats, surrendering two runs in his outing. None of the four Rockabillys pitchers recorded a strikeout in the game.

The Goats offense was able to score four runs, two of which came courtesy of a two-run homerun by left fielder Dalton Rudd in the top of the fifth inning. Right fielder Griffin Cameron collected an RBI on his single to left field in the top of the second.

The Rockabillys continue their road trip on Thursday, June 29th, as they begin a two-game set with the Clinton LumberKings.

The Goats return home on Tuesday, July 4th, to face the Cape Catfish. After the game, fans will be able to experience the biggest Fourth of July fireworks show in Jackson presented by H&R AgriPower.
