Paints Win By Mercy Rule For Third Straight Night, Beat Mill Rats 18-2

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, won in mercy-rule fashion for a third-straight game Saturday night, beating the Johnstown Mill Rats 18-2 at Sargent's Stadium at the point.

Chillicothe (37-16, 15-7) didn't waste any time getting on the board, scoring four runs on four-consecutive one-out hits in the top of the first to take the lead. Victor Figueroa's double plated three runs and a two-out single from Owen Wilson made it 4-0.

After a hit batter and a walk put runners on for the Paints in the second, Camron Bowen hit a ball that was misplayed, allowing two more to score and giving the Paints a 6-0 lead.

Bowen hit a solo home run over the 'screen monster' in left field in the top of the fourth to make it 7-0.

Johnstown (22-30, 10-13) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring on a two-out double by Lance MacDonald.

After the first two Paints hitters were retired in the fifth, scored three on four-consecutive hits, including an RBI double by CJ Carmichael and a two-run single by Tyler Shaneyfelt.

The Mill Rats scored again in the bottom of the fifth. Joe Alcorn walked to lead off the inning, advancing to second on a one-out walk by Jake Kendro. Austin Baal hit a ball to deep center field, where Tyler Shaneyfelt made the catch on the run, crashing into an un-padded brick wall a split-second later. With Shaneyfelt unable to get up and throw the ball in, Alcorn tagged and scored from second to make it 10-2.

Chillicothe answered with three more in the sixth. Four straight one-out hits produced two runs with the last of those being a two-run single from CJ Dean. With two outs, CJ Carmichael singled home another, extending the margin to 13-2.

The Paints made it 18-2 with five more in the top of the seventh. Bowen was walked and Kwiatkowski was hit by a pitch to open the inning. After the next two batters were retired, Dean picked up an RBI single, Owen Wilson did the same, then Jimmy Nugent hit a three-run home run over the 60-foot-high 'screen monster' in left.

Johnstown got a leadoff hit in the bottom of the seventh, but a diving catch by Carmichael at second base and his subsequent throw to first ended the game on a double-play.

Max Whitesell (1-0) made his first appearance on the mound for Chillicothe, allowing just two runs on two hits and striking out four over five innings. Todd Bangtson surrendered one hit and no runs over the final two innings.

Noah Czajkowski (2-3) started and took the loss for Johnstown after giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits while walking five and striking out two over 2 2/3 innings. All three of Czajkowski's losses this season are in starts against Chillicothe.
