Clinton Beats Burlington 9-3

Clinton Beats Burlington 9-3

Clinton had their hitting shoes on Sunday night at Community Field, and the Bees were sloppy on defense.  It was a losing combination for Burlington, who fell to the LumberKings 9-3.

With one out in the top of the second, Clinton center fielder Joe Simpson reached on a fielding error by second baseman Tucker Cole.  A wild pitch from Jared Townsend allowed him to advance.  He scored the unearned run on a Chase Becker single to center.

The Bees plated three in the bottom half when third baseman Oscar Ponce walked to start things off.  With one out catcher Chase Honeycutt was hit by a pitch making it first and second.  A wild pitch from Tyler Stern put runners on second and third. Ponce scored on a Joey Fitzgerald sacrifice fly.  Cole sent Honeycutt home with a single to right.  After a single off the bat of Trey Adams, Cole scored on another wild pitch.  That made it 3-1 Bees.

Luke Ira tied it at three in the top of the third inning.  His home run to left brought in Matt Scherrman, who had reached on an infield single.

The fourth frame went scoreless.  In the fifth the LumberKings opened things up.  Scherrman singled to left.  Ira did the same.  A wild pitch made it second and third.  Another wild pitch from Townsend sent Scherrman home. A Rayth Peterson single chased Townsend.  Cauy Massner came on to get an out.  A stolen base and an error put Peterson on third.  He scored on a Simpson sacrifice fly.  In the end Clinton was ahead to stay 6-3.

They tacked on runs in the sixth and eighth.  Burlington totaled three errors on the evening, Townsend threw four costly wild pitches, the LumberKings pounded out 15 hits and the Bees took a loss.

Jeron Connor made his Burlington debut tossing 1.2 hitless innings.
