Paints Win Slugfest at Champion City, 20-11

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, wracked up season highs for runs, hits and home runs in a single game Monday night at Carleton Davidson Stadium en route to a 20-11 victory over the Champion City Kings.

The Paints (5-2) took an early 1-0 lead when Tyler Shaneyfelt led the game off with a walk, scoring later in the inning on a two-out, RBI single by Victor Figueroa

Champion City (1-5) answered immediately in the bottom of the first. Calin Smith homered to start the inning. Three batters later, Broc Parmer hit a two-run home run, giving the Kings a 3-1 lead.

They made it 4-1 in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff walk to Connor Huzicka, Lucas Day singled, moving Huzicka to third. He scored on a groundout by Smith.

The next 14 runs belonged to the Paints.

Chillicothe put up its first big inning of the night in the top of the fourth. Figueroa led off with a single and then Gavin Ganun launched a two-run home run, his second long ball in as many nights. James Nugent followed with a solo shot, tying the game at 4-4. Owen Wilson singled and stole second base, scoring on a two-out, RBI single by Tim Orr, giving the Paints the lead back at 5-4.

Five more came in for the Paints in the fifth. Arturo Disla led off with a single, moving to second on a single by Figueroa and scoring on an RBI double by Ganun. Nugent knocked home Figueroa with a sacrifice fly. Wilson beat out an infield hit, moving Ganun to third, who then scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Kwiatkowski. Tyler Shaneyfelt stepped in and blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, making it 10-4 Chillicothe.

Disla led off the sixth inning, reaching on an error. Figueroa then hit his fourth single of the game, and Ganun loaded the bases with a single of his own. After a strikeout by Nugent, Wilson drove home two on a single. Kriatkowski knocked home another with a single. After a flyout by Shaneyfelt, Orr brought home Wilson and Kwiatkowski with a two-out hit, making it 15-4.

Champion City stopped the Paints' run with a pair of runs in the sixth. Lucas Day hit a three-run home run in the seventh, cutting the Paints' lead to 15-9.

Chillicothe got back to work offensively in the eighth. Wilson reached on an error, allowing him to take second base. He went to third on a Kwiatkowski single and scored on bases-loaed walk by Orr. Brayden White and Disla then drove home another, each, on sacrifice flies, giving the Paints an 18-9 advantage.

Nugent singled with one out in the ninth, advancing to second and then third on two wild pitches. After a couple of two-out walks to load the bases, Orr collected his fifth and sixth RBIs of the night with a two-out single, making it 20-9.

The Kings got a couple of runs in the ninth, but the Paints held on for the 20-11 victory.

Orr finished the night 4-6 with the aforementioned six RBIs. Figueroa went 4-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Ganun and Wilson both ended up 3-6. Ganun with three runs scored and three RBIs. Wilson with four runs scored and two RBIs. Nugent and Kwiatkowski each collected two hits, with scoring twice and driving in two and Kwiatkowski scoring three times and knocking in two. Shaneyfelt, White and Disla each had one hit. Shaneyfelt drove in two, while White and Disla each had one RBI. 

AJ Clegg earned the win in relief, he was deemed the most effective reliever since starter Jared Adams did not qualify with four innings pitched. Clegg (1-1) was the only pitcher in the game for either team with at least a full inning of work to not give up a run, he allowed one hit and struck out two.
