Paints Out-Slug CornBelters 16-10

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, kicked off their three-game home stand with a 16-10 win over the Normal CornBelters Thursday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

The Paints (7-6) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Tim Orr doubled, scoring Tyler Shaneyfelt for the first run. An Arturo Disla groundout and a Victor Figueroa groundout plated the other two.

Aaron Bock homered for Normal (9-5) in the top of the third, making it a 3-1 ballgame. 

Chillicothe got an RBI double from Disla, scoring Orr in the bottom of the third, stretching the lead to 4-1.

An error and two walks loaded the bases for the CornBelters in the fourth and JD Bogart hit a grand slam, giving Normal its first lead of the game at 5-4, though it didn't last long.

The Paints plated four in the bottom of the inning. Jack Gidcumb tripled to start the inning, scoring on a Cameron Bowen single, tying the game at 5-5. After a Shaneyfelt double, Drew Donaldson lined into a sacrifice fly, scoring Bowen and advancing Shaneyfelt to third. Orr then hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast, making it 8-5 Chillicothe.

Normal got two back in the fifth and tied the game at eight with an unearned run in the sixth.

Disla drove in another in the bottom of the inning for Chillicothe, scoring Shaneyfelt. Caleb Vaughn later hit a two-out, two-run single, scoring Orr and Donaldson, making it 11-8 and giving the Paints their third and final lead of the night.

In the bottom of the seventh, two walks and a Bowen single loaded the bases with no outs for the Paints. Shaneyfelt knocked home one on a walk, extended the lead to 12-8. After an out at the plate and an infield popup, Disla launched his fifth home run of the season, a grand slam for his fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh RBIs of the night, pushing the lead to 16-8.

Normal scored a couple runs in the eighth, but the Paints got the win 16-10.

The Paints and CornBelters play at VA Memrorial Stadium again Friday night on Veterans Appreciation Night, sponsored by the VA Medical Center, Ross County Veterans Council, JobsOhio, Southeast Ohio Economic Deveopment and Ohio American Legion. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
