Shrimp Pitching Contained Bees

Shrimp Pitching Contained Bees

After Burlington produced 8 runs on 13 hits Wednesday night, two Illinois Valley pitchers combined to hold them to 1 run on 4 hits Thursday as the Pistol Shrimp pounded the Bees 11 to 1.

It was not Garrett Moltzan's night.  The Burlington starter gave up 8 runs on 10 hits and a walk in taking the loss to go to 1-2.   While Steve Escarcega, Devin Holmes and Tucker Cole held the Shrimp to just two more runs in relief over the final five innings, the damage was already done.

Zach Losey, now 2-0, tossed 5.2 frames to take the win for Illinois Valley.  He gave up 1 run on four hits, 3 walks while striking out 10.  He was followed by Harrison Bodendorf, who was simply dominant.  The lefty finished what Losey started, throwing 3.1 innings of no hit ball to earn the save.  He struck out 8 of the 10 batters he faced.

The lone Burlington run came on a Weston Fulk RBI double.  It was a long one hopper off the left center field wall, scoring Sam Monroe, who had walked.  Spencer Nivens continued to be a bright spot for the Bees.  He collected half of Burlington's four hits, on a 2-4 night, raising his batting average to .315.

The Bees travel to Illinois Valley to face these same Shrimp tomorrow.
