Bees Pen Shuts Down Dans

Bees Pen Shuts Down Dans

It was all about the bullpen as Burlington took down the Danville Dans 6-4 on Wednesday night.

Starter Rem Maxwell carried the Bees into the fifth with four innings of five hit ball.  He allowed four runs, walked two and struck out five.  Maxwell left the game with a 6-4 lead.

That was all the scoring in the game, as both bullpens shut the other team down for the final five frames.

Burlington relievers Zach Leuschen (1-0), who got the win, Drew Martin, Chase Golden and Jake Jakubowski closed the game allowing 2 hits and no runs.  Danville's Carter Krawchuk and Connor Nation held Burlington to no runs on five hits for the final 5.1 innings.

The Bees took the lead in the bottom of the first when Tanner Holland opened with a walk.  He stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a Carter Heninger balk.

After the Dans plated a run in the top of the second, Burlington pushed across two more in the bottom half.  With a couple of outs recorded, Ian Wolski was hit by a pitch.  Jaden Hackbarth added to his league leading total with his 23rd walk of the season.  Holland walked.  Corey Boyette cranked single to right sending Hackbarth and Wolski home.

Danville scored one in the top of the third.

Burlington came right back.  In the bottom half, again with two out, Caleb Wulf dropped a perfect bunt to reach.  Brandon Bickford walked.  Wolski walked.  Jaden Hackbarth then smashed a double down the right field line, clearing the bases.

Danville scored two in the top of the fourth, making it 6-4 game, and that was it.  No one scored and there were really no threats the rest of the way.

Hackbarth finished the night 2-3 and the walk, with 3 RBI.

Jakubowski notched his third save, and has still not allowed a run in 7 appearances.

Burlington is off Thursday.  They host the Quincy Gems Friday at 6:30 PM.
