Paints Crush Kings 12-2 in Seven Innings

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedics, grabbed their second-straight win Friday night, triggering the Prospect League's run-rule in a 12-2 win at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

Chillicothe (2-1) didn't wait too long to get things going, as the first four batters in the top of the third reached and scored. Tyler Shaneyfelt led things off with a double and Cole Kwiatkowski tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but both runners were safe as the Champion City pitcher tried to get the out at third, putting runners at first and third with no outs. Tim Orr followed with a two-run double to get the scoring started, giving the Paints a 2-0 lead. Arturo Disla then smashed an opposite-field two-run home run, his second of the season, making it 4-0 Chillicothe. Sammy Stoner reached base on a fielder's choice two batter later, scoring on a fielder's choice from Tyler Mendez, making it 5-0 Paints.

Champion City (1-2) got one run back in the bottom of the third on a two-out, RBI double by Calin Smith, scoring Jake Sherman, who had reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

Chillicothe got back to work quickly in the top of the fourth, Kwiatkowski tripled on a sinking line drive that just got under the diving Kings' right fielder. After Orr was hit by a pitch, Disla plated Kwiatkowski with an RBI single. Orr would later come home on an RBI fielder's choice by Stoner, making it 7-1.

In the top of the fifth, Cameron Bowen worked a one-out walk, moving to second on a wild pitch and scoring two batters later on an RBI single by Kwiatkowski. Orr popped up the first pitch he saw just foul of the bag at third, but the Kings' third baseman dropped it for Champion City's first error of the night. The second came later in the at bat when Orr grounded one to second base, but the throw to first went wide, allowing Kwiatkowski to score and extending the Chillicothe lead to 9-1. They made it 10-1 on Disla's third run-scoring hit of the night, another single, scoring Orr.

Paints starter Dylan Dudones turned in a solid outing for the Paints, at one point striking out four batters in a row and five of six. He allowed two runs, one earned on three hits, walked three and struck out eight over 4 1/3 innings. That unearned run came in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Callen Smith, cutting the Paints' lead to 10-2. AJ Clegg came on for Chillicothe, retiring both batters he faced to finish the fifth.

Chillicothe collected another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Shaneyfelt and one more run in the seventh on a groundout by Cameron Macon, making it 12-2.

Clegg came back out in the sixth for Chillicothe, working around a leadoff walk to hold the game at 12-2. Jackson Bergman pitched the seventh for the Paints, issuing a one-out walk, but inducing a game-ending double play. Dudones (1-0) earned the win for the Paints, while Champion City's Luke Myers (0-1) took the loss for the Kings after allowing five runs on five hits over three innings.

Disla finished the game 4-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Shaneyfelt, Kwiatkowski, Orr and Jack Gidcumb each collected two hits on the night.
