CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton Elotes (13-9) defeated the Quincy Gems (10-14) 18-8 in 8 innings at NelsonCorp Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Elotes struck first with a three RBI triple by Casey Hintz followed by a passed ball that Hintz would score on. 

The Gems would score in the top of the third with an RBI single by Riley Black and a sac fly RBI by Kyle Hvidsten to cut the lead in half 4-2.

The Elotes responded in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Brock Wollin and a sac fly RBI by Dylan DeButy to take a 6-2 lead.

The Gems would score in back to back innings in the fourth and the fifth with Joeo Siervo hitting an RBI single in the fourth and Black scoring on a passed ball in the fifth. 

The Elotes would put up a nine run inning in the bottom of the sixth starting with a solo homer by Gavin Brzozowski. Casen Neumann would walk and earn and RBI with the bases loaded followed by an RBI single by DeButy. Trevor Burkhart would hit an RBI groundout to make it 11-4.

Max Holy, the reigning Prospect League player of the Week, would bat for the second time in the inning. With the bases loaded Max Holy would hit a grand slam over the left field wall into the Bud Lite Picnic Pavillion to open the score 15-4. 

The Elotes needed three outs to win but the Gems would use the top of the seventh to attempt a comeback. An RBI walk would cut the score 15-5 followed by an RBI double by Harry Fandre and a RBI single by Logan Voth to cut the lead 15-8.

The Elotes would score in the seventh on a two RBI double, which would just come short of a walk-off in the seventh with a 17-8 lead. 

In the bottom of the eighth, Parker Shupe hit a sharp liner into the dirt towards the first baseman and Holy would come around to score the walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth with a 18-8 victory.

Quincy's starter, Stefan Stockwell, would take his first loss of the season allowing six hits, six runs, five earned, four walks and two strikeouts while his record moved to 1-1. 

Clinton's starter, Brady Schiesl, only threw three innings and allowed four hits, two runs, both earned, two walks and no strikeouts. 

Carson Lydon would come in relief for Schiesl and earn his first win of the season on a one and two thirds innings performance. He allowed two hits, two runs, one earned, three walks and no strikeouts. 

With tonight's win, Clinton's magic number goes down to one. A win against the Gems tomorrow night would clinch the first half Great River Division and bring a playoff game to Clinton for the first time in their history with the Prospect League. 

The Clinton LumberKigns go for the series sweep against the Quincy Gems to NelsonCorp Field on Monday afternoon with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. and the gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
