Figueroa Homers, Paints Complete Sweep of Kings

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, completed a three-game sweep of the Champion City Kings in a 5-2 win Saturday at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

Gavin Ganun got the scoring started, reaching on an error and scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning. Victor Figueroa hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth, making it 2-0 Chillicothe (3-1).

Champion City (1-3) cut it to a one-run game in the fifth. A leadoff walk put Connor Huzicka aboard, scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch, bring the Kings to within one at 2-1.

The Paints restored the two-run lead in the top of the seventh. Sammy Stoner reached on a bunt single, scoring two batters later on a two-out, RBI single from Cole Kwiatkowski, making it 3-1.

The Kings cut the lead to one again in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Robinson doubled to start the inning, scoring two batters later on an RBI single from Nikolas Periera, and it was a 3-2 ballgame.

In the top of the ninth, Owen Wilson led off for the Paints with a double. With Stoner at first, a pickoff attempt was dropped by the Kings' first baseman, allowing Wilson to score from third as the ball rolled away. Stoner then scored on a Brayden White RBI single, making it 5-2, the eventual final.

Chillicothe starting pitcher Will Rettig (1-0) earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits, a walk and three strikeouts over six innings. Cole Pauley earned his second save of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth, while walking one, hitting one and striking one out.

Champion City starter Zach Cabell (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and striking out two over five innings.

Kwiatkowski, White, Figueroa and Stone each collected two hits. Kwiatkowski, White and Figueroa each drove in a run.
