Bees Errors Lead to 6-4 Loss to Cornbelters

Starters Jacob Zahner (0-0) for Burlington and Normal's Drew Conn (0-0) locked up in a good one Wednesday night at the Hive.  In the end, neither would figure in the final decisions.

The Bees committed 3 errors, allowing three unearned runs leading to a 6-4 CornBelter's win.

Zahner went a season high 5 full innings.  He gave up 6 hits and walked one.  He struck out five 'Belters.  The lanky righty gave up 4 runs, 3 earned.

Conn kept the Bees out of rhythm with an assortment of off speed and breaking balls for his six frames.  The Grandview University player gave up 5 hits, 2 runs, one unearned and two walks.  He struck out 7, before reaching the 95 pitch limit on the final batter of the sixth.  The big righty left with a 4-2 lead.

The Bees climbed back into it behind the hitting of Kooper Shulte and Jaden Hackbarth.  Schulte went 2-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.  He also stole a base.  Hackbarth was 2-4, also with a double.  He scored two runs.

With the score tied at four in the top of the eighth, Jaden Siemer came in to throw for Burlington.  He induced a fly out from Ben Higgins, then walked Scott Newman.  An error by Bees first baseman Keanu Spenser left runners on first and third.  One out later, Siemer balked in Newman to make it 5-4. J D Bogart chased Young home with a single to end the scoring.

Burlington did not threaten in the eight or ninth.

Siemer (0-1) took the tough loss.  Drake Downing (1-0) was credited with the win.

The Bees return to the Hive Friday, June 9, when they take on Springfield.
