Paints Rule-Rule REX 11-1, Win 10th Straight & Clinch Playoff Spot

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - On a night celebrating 30 seasons of baseball, the Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, locked in a playoff spot with an 11-1, seven-inning win over the REX Friday night at VA Memoria Stadium. The win in the tenth straight for the team and it clinched the first half Ohio River Valley Division title for the Paints, marking the 11th playoff appearance in 14 Prospect League seasons for Chillicothe.

Colin Bryant (2-2) tossed the first complete game for the Paints this summer, allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out eight over seven innings.

Offensively, Chillicothe (20-8) didn't waste much time getting to work. Tyler Shaneyfelt led off the bottom of the first with a hit and stole second. Tim Orr singled and then stole second and they both came home on a hit from Victor Figueroa. Arturo Disla tripled, scoring Figueroa and making it 3-0 after one inning.

A wild pitch brought home Figueroa in the third and Brayden White singled, scoring Sean Kolenich, making it 5-0.

A sacrifice fly from Orr plated Shaneyfelt in the fourth, then Disla brought home Kwiatkowski with a single, extending the lead to 7-0.

The REX got their lone run in the top of th seventh, making it a 7-1 ballgame.

Chillicothe ended it in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three on a bases-loaded triple from Orr. Figueroa singled home Orr, making it 11-1, triggering the Prospect League's mercy rule of 10 after seven innings. 

Orr drove in four on the night, while Figueroa knocked home three. Disla drove home two and White picked up an RBI as well.

By virtue of winning the first half division crown, the Paints are assured a home playoff game Sunday, August 6. They play the second-half winner for the Ohio River Valley Division title at VA Memorial Stadium.

The Paints are home against the REX again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. After the game, fans will be treated to an Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by 94 Country.
