Bees Bats Explode in Season Opener

Bees Bats Explode in Season Opener

Burlington fans were expecting post game fireworks on opening night of the 2022 Prospect League season.  However, the Bees batters provided them early, exploding for 5 runs in the first and closing with an AJ Henkle game ending grand slam.  Henkle's no doubter to left provided the margin for a ten run rule finish over the Quincy Gems.

The Bees centerfielder came to the plate in the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded and no one out and needing a home run for the cycle. The Illinois-Chicago product had already doubled to open the contest.  He singled in the 4th and tripled in the 5th.  Henkle had 6 RBI on the night.

First baseman Weston Fulk was 3 for 4, scored a run and drove one in.  Bees shortstop Charlie Terrill was also 3 for 4.  He scored twice.

Lefty Jared Townsend opened on the mound for Burlington.  He went 3 innings before giving way to Adrian Nery, who also went 3 innings and collected the win.

The same two clubs play one another again on Thursday.  Game time is 6:30.  Garrett Moltzan will take the mound for the Bees
