Bees Hang On for 11-10 Victory Over Shrimp

The Bees took an early 3-0 lead against Illinois Valley, gave it up, took it back and barely hung on to win a wild 11-10 win Wednesday night at Community Field.

Jeron Conner (2-1) earned the victory, tossing 2.2 innings in relief of Burlington starter Trevor McGee, who threw 3.1 frames.  Conner gave up one run on one hit.  He walked none and struck out two.

David Theriot pitched into and out of trouble in the ninth to notch his first save of the season.

After hitting two round trippers in the Bees last outing, Kevin Santiago blasted a three run shot in the four run home seventh.  The Texas Wesleyan junior now has 10 on the season, tied for second most in the league.  Jaden Hackbarth was two for five with a double and two runs batted in.

Burlington was ahead 11-6 headed into the eighth inning. The Shrimp closed to within three on a walk, single, two stolen bases and two fielder's choice RBI's.

David Theriot came on in the final frame to try to close it for Burlington. His first pitch hit Evan Evola.  He scored on a Tucker Bougie double to center.  Ivan Witt followed with a double to left scoring Bougie.

That made it 11-10 Bees.  Theriot got Harry Mauterer swinging for the first out. With Witt standing on second, Kevin Parker squared to bunt.  He pulled back and it appeared Witt had stolen third, but home plate umpire called Parker out for batter interference for the second out.  Kody Watanabe grounded out to short ending the game.  The Bees had managed to hang on.
