Late Alton Rally Pushes River Dragons Past LumberKings

CLINTON, Iowa- With five games left to play the Clinton LumberKings took on the Alton River Dragons on Wednesday night. After both teams traded leads in the first seven innings, the River Dragons pulled ahead late and defeated Clinton 13-4. 

 

After the River Dragons scored one run in both the fourth and sixth innings, the Clinton LumberKings took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) hit his second home run of the season, a three-run blast into left field. After six innings the LumberKings held a 3-2 advantage. 

 

In the eighth the Alton River Dragons took the lead back with six in the inning. Alton scored six runs in the inning, all with two outs. The game was tied on a Bryce Zupan (Kaskaskia College) RBI single. Later, Mike Hampton (Lewis and Clark CC) drove in another run, with a single giving the River Dragons the lead back. Alton scored four more runs in the inning, with the big blow off the bat of Eddie King Jr. (University of Louisville) his 15th of the season, the Prospect League lead.

 

After Alton tacked on five more in the ninth, Nick Banowetz (Southeastern CC) singled in a run for Clinton to make it 13-4, the final score. 

 

The LumberKings take on the Normal CornBelters tomorrow night in a doubleheader at NelsonCorp Field. Two Great River Division matchups with playoff implications. 

 

Game one will start at 5 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m. 

 

The games will mark the last regular season games at NelsonCorp Field in 2022.
