Paints Route CornBelters 16-3 in Normal

NORMAL, Ill. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by CohenOrthopedic, grabbed a convicing win Tuesday night in Normal, beating the CornBelters 16-3 at The Corn Crib.

The Paints (29-13, 6-4) scored nine times in the second inning, taking advantage of three CornBelters errors and a pair of wild pitches. Victor Figuero drove in the first run on a single. Owen Wilson hit into a fielder's choice, but the throw to third was high, allowing Arturo Disla and Figueroa to score. A wild pitch brought home Wilson and, after a Cole Kwiatkowski walk, Tyler Shaneyfelt drove home the fifth run of the inning with a single. With two outs, Tim Orr singled home Shaneyfelt, making it 6-0. CJ Dean, batting for a second time in the inning, extended the inning with a single and Disla hit a line-drive home run to right field, a two-run blast and his Prospect League-best 10th of the season, making it 9-0.

Normal (21-22, 6-10) scored its three runs in the bottom of the third, all with two outs. After back-to-back walks, Clay Conn, Tyler Castro and Case Sanderson all collected RBI singles, cutting the Chillicothe lead to 9-3, but that's as close as the CornBelters would get.

Figueroa made it a 11-3 Paints lead with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fourth.

Bowen hit a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the fifth, making it 13-3.

Brayden White singled to start the seventh, later scoring on an RBI groundout by Kwiatkowski. Two batters later, Bowen hit a two-run home run to right field, making it 16-3.

The Paints have won six of their last seven and 19 of their last 24 games. Their 29-13 record is only a half-game back of the best record in the entire Prospect League.

The Paints and the CornBelters play again Wednesday night in Normal. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. EDT.
