Catfish Hands Bees 9-3 Loss

Catfish Hands Bees 9-3 Loss

The 12-1 Cape Catfish rolled into Burlington Friday and left 13-1.

Cape showed why they sport the best record in the Prospect League, pounding out 13 hits, including 3 home runs, against six Bees pitchers, taking a 9-3 win.

Burlington starter Jacob Zahner (0-1) held the 'Fish powerful lineup in check through the first three innings, allowing a single run on two hits.

With the score tied at one, Zahner got two quick outs in the top of the fourth before walking Cape first baseman Landon Godsay.  Kevin McCarthy moved him up with a single, and third baseman Landon Crowden launched his first home run of the year to make it 4-1.

The Catfish plated three more in the fifth off Zahner and reliever Ryan Donley, and the Bees found themselves in a hole down 7-1.

The Burlington bullpen gave up runs in the sixth and eighth.

The Bees did not go quietly, scoring in the sixth on a Jackson Fisher sacrifice fly after consecutive singles by Kooper Schulte, Coy Sarsfield and Caleb Wulf.

They pushed another run across in the seventh when Jaden Hackbarth shot a one out double to left.  That scored Schulte, who had singled to center.

That is as close as the Bees would get.  Zahner took the loss.  Dylan Peck (3-0) got the win.

Burlington shortstop Kooper Schulte came into the game hitting .448.  He went 2-5 scored a run and had an RBI.  Right fielder Coy Sarsfield was 2-4.

The Bees are away from home for the next seven day.  They return to Community Field Saturday, June 24 for another Catfish Bend Fireworks night.  Game time is 6:35 PM.
