LumberKings Win Penultimate Home Game

CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings (16-12) defeat the Burlington Bees (13-14) 12-5 on Wednesday night at NelsonCorp Field.

Clinton scored first on a sac fly RBI off the bat of Jeremy Conforti to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. They would increase their lead 2-0 on a Matt Scherrman RBI double in the bottom of the third inning.

The Bees would retaliate and tie the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth on a RBI walk and a Connor Laeng RBI sac fly RBI.

The LumberKings responded on an RBI single by Tate Gillen to take a 3-2 lead.

The Bees would tie the game, for the second time, 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded.

Clinton would score to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Paul Vossen would steal home plate to take a 4-3 lead followed by a sac fly RBI by Nick Meyer for a 5-3 lead.

The LumberKings would add more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single by Vossen. While on base he would steal third base. Vossen came home on the stolen base to third after a errant throw by Burlington's catcher would fly over the third baseman's head to take a 7-3.

Clinton's starter Owen Brauch would go five innings, allowing four hits, two runs, all earned, three walks and two strikeouts but would receive a no decision in his outing.

Coby Greiner would take his first win with the LumberKings in relief after throwing two and two-thirds innings allowing just two hits, no runs, one walk and two strikeouts.

Burlington's starter, Jacob Zahner, would also receive a no decision for his four innings of work where he would allow three hits, three runs, all earned, three walks and four strikeouts.

Matthew Dinae would come out of relief and take his first loss of the 2023 season with the Bees for his two innings of work. He allowed no hits, but allowed two runs, one earned, three walks and a strikeout in his outting.

The LumberKings hit the road to Burlington for a two game series against the Bees for their final road trip of the 2023 season. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
