Clinton Completes the Sweep at Home

CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings (8-4) sweep the Burlington Bees (3-7) 8-5 at NelsonCorp Field on Monday night.

Clinton's starter, Brady Schiesl, (0-1, 6.75) allowed six hits, three runs, all earned, no walks and three strikeouts in his second start of the 2023 season.

The Burlington Bees, in the second straight game, scored first in the top of the second inning with an RBI double by Jackson Fisher to take a 1-0 lead.

The LumberKings responded in the bottom of the second on an Alex Diaz RBI double to tie the game at one run each.

Burlington would pull away with the lead with Kooper Schulte's RBI single in the top of the third and Fisher's solo shot over the left field wall in the fourth to lead 3-1.

Clinton answered the Bees' lead in the bottom of the fifth by putting up three runs in the inning with a RBI single by Will Stark, a two RBI single by Gavin Brzozowski to take a 4-3 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the LumberKings would add four more runs in the game on a wild pitch that would score Brzozowski from third base, an RBI single by Diaz, an RBI double by Connor Giusti and another RBI double by Brandon Vlcko. Clinton would end the scoring barage with a 8-3 lead.

The Bees attempted a comeback in the top of the ninth inning by scoring on a passed ball and an RBI walk.

Logan Romasanta would enter the game in the top of the ninth with two outs and the bases loaded. He would end the game with a strikeout to seal the win and complete the sweep.

The LumberKings are off on Tuesday and return back to action at NelsonCorp Field for another two-game series against the Danville Dans. This will be the first trip to Clinton for the Dans in 69 years. The last time the Dans played in Clinton was in the 1954 Mississippi-Ohio Valley League Championship.

First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. with the gate opening at 5:30 p.m.
