Errors Cost Bees

Errors Cost Bees

With Quincy idle, Burlington had a chance to make up the half game they were behind for the second playoff spot in the Great River Division, but three errors led to four unearned runs as the Bees fell to the Clinton LumberKings 7-3.

Colten Clarahan (0-1) was the hard luck loser.  In his first start for Burlington, the Southeastern Community College righty from Harper, Iowa, tossed four and a third innings.  He gave up four runs, only one earned, and five hits.  He walked one.  He struck out four.

The Bees went down 2-0 in the second on a one out double and an error by Jaden Hackbarth and an infield single to left.

Clinton tacked on two more in the fifth after a one out hit by pitch, two stolen bases, a walk, a double steal, which scored a run, and another error.  Clinton up 4-0.

It was 5-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.  Mason Schwalbach, who was 3-4 on the evening, drew a one out walk.  Keanu Spenser, on a 2-5 night, hit into a fielder's choice.  Mitch Wood singled Spenser to third.  A Caleb Wulf single to left scored Spenser.  Ian Wolski doubled to left for an RBI.  Trent Rice followed with a single of his own scoring Wulf.  Bees down 5-3.

Clinton scored another unearned run in the seventh and another run in the top of the ninth to end it.  Final score 7-3 LumberKings.  Bees opportunity wasted.

Burlington remains home for a return engagement with Clinton on Wednesday.  First pitch is 6:30 PM.
