LumberKings Rock the 'Billys

CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings (15-9) defeated the Jackson Rockabillys (9-16) 13-6 at NelsonCorp Field on Thursday night. 

The first meeting between these two teams led to a marathon of runs being scored for both teams.

In the top of the first inning, Wesley Mann got things started with a two run home run to left to give Jackson a 2-0 lead.

The LumberKings would score in the bottom of the first on a RBI double by Gavin Brzozoswki, who would be clutch all game tonight, to make it 2-1.

The LumberKings would score again in the bottom of the second on a two run home run to straight away center field off the bat of Dylan DeButy to give the LumberKings a 3-2 lead. It would be DeButy's first homer of the season.

The LumberKings didn't stop there, they would score in the bottom of the third on a sac fly RBI by Casen Neumann that would score Max Holy to double their lead 4-2.

The Rockabillys would respond in the top of the sixth on a RBI walk, a two RBI by James Denten and a RBI single by Braden Vinyard to take a 6-4 lead.

The LumberKings wouldn't take their comeback lightly as they would blow the game open in the bottom of the sixth. Brock Wollin would start the scoring with an RBI single, then DeButy would score on a wild pitch to tie the game 6-6. Brzozowski would hit an RBI single to take a 7-6 lead. Parker Shupe would hit a dribbler down the third baseline and reach third base after an errant throw by the third basemen of the Rockabillys that would score two runs, then Shupe would score himself on a passed ball.

The LumberKings would score three more times in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI double by Brzozowski, an RBI doubly by Holy and an RBI single by Shupe.

Jackson's starter would allow four hits, four runs, three earned, six walks and four strikeouts through four and two-thirds innings.

Sam Poindexter would take his first loss of the season allowing four hits, six runs, three earned, two walks and one strikeout through one inning.

Clinton would throw six pitchers in tonight's win. Nile Foss would start and allow two hits, two runs, all earned, no walks, and a season high six strikeouts through three innings pitched. Logan Romasanta would take his second win of the 2023 season after allowing no hits, runs walks or strikeouts through one and one-third innings pitched.

The Clinton LumberKings look to sweep the Rockabillys tomorrow night in game two. First pitch at 6:30 p.m. NelsonCorp's gates open at 5:30 p.m.
