Bees’ Late Rally Falls Short, Clinton Prevails 10-6

What was a back and forth game between Burlington and Clinton broke open in the top of the ninth, when the LumberKings pushed across four runs to take a 10-4 lead.

Clinton scored single runs in the first, second and third before Coy Sarsfield's single to center in the fourth put Burlington on the board.

The Bees rallied again in the fifth.  After Brandon Bickford grounded out, Ian Wolski walked.  Jaden Hackbarth drew a free pass to make it first and second.  Tanner Holland was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  One out later, Mason Schwalbach mashed a double to the left center field gap, clearing the bases.  4-3 Bees.

Clinton wasted no time coming back off Burlington reliever Ryan Donley, touching him up for three runs on two hits and three free passes in the top of the sixth.

That is how it stayed until the top of the ninth.  Clinton got to Bees' Nick Tampa, who had relieved Jaden Siemer.  Tampa hit the first batter he faced, and it was downhill from there.  When the dust had settled, the LumberKings had scored four runs on four hits, two walks and the hit batsman.

The Bees put together a rally in the bottom of the frame.  Ian Wolski launched a one out double to right.  He advanced to third on Hackbarth's single to left.  Holland walked.  Pinch hitter Corey Boyette dumped a single to center plating Wolski, and reloading the bases.  Hackbarth scored on a Mason Schwalbach sacrifice fly to close out the scoring, and the Bees fell 10-6.

Burlington travels to Clinton for the fourth of July game.  They return to Community Field on Wednesday to face the Danville Dans.  First pitch is 6:30.  It will be Once Upon a Time Night and Win It Wednesday sponsored by Casebine Community Credit Union.
