Clinton Defeats Quincy 14-7 In Back and Forth Affair

QUINCY, Ill. - On Saturday night the Clinton LumberKings took on the Quincy Gems in game two of a pair at QU Stadium.
 
The game was a wild one, starting with the LumberKings and Gems trading shots in the second inning with both teams scoring one run. Connor Giusti (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second, giving Clinton a one run lead. 
 
The Gems answered with one run of their own in the second, and two more in the third making it a 3-1 ball game. 
 
The fourth inning saw the LumberKings take the lead right back. Tyler Dahm (Mount Mercy University) singled in a run and Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) drove in two, to give Clinton the lead 4-3.
 
The game continued to swing back and forth with the Gems holding a 7-5 lead in the eighth inning, but Clinton answered and Petersen once again delivered, tying the game with a two-run homer to left field. Petersen ended up with three hits on the night and four RBIs.
 
In the ninth the LumberKings took control. Jeremy Conforti (College of DuPage) delivered a pinch hit RBI single to put Clinton in front. The LumberKings weren't finished, plating six more runs in the inning and seven total in the ninth, enroute to a 14-7 victory.
 
On the mound for Clinton, Matt Scherrman (Wisconsin Oshkosh) recorded the win out of the bullpen, going 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball and finishing the game. Scherrman had been in the lineup as the designated hitter before entering in relief. 
 
The LumberKings now travel to the "Corn Crib" to take on the Normal CornBelters tomorrow night with first pitch at 6:00 p.m. Jackson Kent (Arizona) will be on the mound for the LumberKings.
