River Dragons Get 6-5 Comeback Win Over REX

FROM ALTON:

ALTON, Ill. - For the second time this season, the Alton River Dragons scored the game winning run in their last at bat, doing so on Thursday night for a comeback 6-5 win over the Terre Haute Rex at Lloyd Hopkins Field.

Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the eighth, Alton loaded the bases with none out. A Gage Mestas infield single and Noah Bush bases loaded walk brought the score to 5-4 with one-out.

That brought up Blake Burris with the bases loaded, who grounded to second. Terre Haute got the force out at second, but not only was the throw late to first, it skipped away from the first basemen to allow an extra to score and give Alton the 6-5 lead.

In the ninth, Terre Haute would get the lead off batter on, but Matthew Romero struck out the next three batters to secure the victory.

Its the seventh time in nine games the River Dragons had a game decided by one run. They've won five of them.

Burris went 3/4 with a double and the game tying RBI. Daniel Conteras had his first three-hit game, while Ben Gallaher and Gage Mestas each added two hits.

On the mound, Colin Salter earns the win throwing three quality relief innings.

The game was tied 2-2 entering the seventh, Terre Haute took the lead when a two-out flyball to left was lost in the lights. Two runs scored on that play, with another coming one batter later.

The River Dragons are now 6-0 all-time against the Rex and improve to a Prospect League best 7-2 this season
