Conforti Knocks In Four, LumberKings Beat Gems 7-2

QUINCY, Ill. - On Thursday the Clinton LumberKings used a little bit of everything to end a three-game skid and defeat the Quincy Gems at QU Stadium 7-2, the final game of a four-game road trip.

The LumberKings struck early going up 1-0 in the first inning as Jeremy Conforti (College of DuPage) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, this was the start to a big night for the first baseman.

After taking a 3-0 lead in the second, the LumberKings broke things wide open in the third. Conforti returned to the plate and belted his first home run of the year, a two-run shot to make it 5-0 in the third.

Quincy would score two of their own in the bottom half of the fourth inning before the game was put in a weather delay for roughly an hour, with the score 5-2 in favor of Clinton.

Before the break Blake Gaskey (Southeastern CC) was on the mound for Clinton. Gaskey completed four innings of work and only allowed the two runs in the fourth.

After the weather delay, the Bullpen for Clinton kept the Gems scoreless behind the arms of Trevor Sorensen (Yakima Valley College) and Cole Conner(Oakton CC).

Clinton would tally two more in the top half of the ninth. Jeremy Conforti once again drove in a run, this time with a double, grabbing his fourth RBI of the game. Connor Giusti (UW-Oshkosh) followed, driving him in with a single to give Clinton insurance on the way to the 7-2 victory.

The LumberKings now return home to NelsonCorp Field for a four-game home stand starting with the Cape Catfish tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
