Kent Fans 13, In Clinton Win

CLINTON, Iowa - Jackson Kent (Arizona) struck out 13 batters as the Clinton Lumberkings defeated the Quincy Gems 4-1 Friday night.

Clinton got the win behind four runs in the sixth inning. After two men reached with one out, the LumberKings, trailing 1-0, used three RBI hits to take a 4-1 lead. First, Joe Simpson (Kirkwood CC) drove in two runners with a single. Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) followed that up with an RBI double. Later in the inning, Trevor Burkhart (LSU-Shreveport) drove in Simpson with an RBI single.

LumberKing pitchers fanned 18 batters and gave up only four hits in the contest. Nolan Frey (Mount Mercy) won his fifth game of the season as Rayth Petersen (University of Illinois Chicago) picked up his first save this year to seal the game for Clinton.

The only run for the Gems came in the first inning when Zack Stewart (Missouri St) clobbered a first-pitch solo homer with two outs in the inning.

The LumberKings will now hit the road for a four-game road trip starting tomorrow night in Quincy, Ill.
