Alton Tops Quincy 6-3

ALTON, Ill. - The light may have briefly gone out at Lloyd Hopkins Field, but Mike Hampton and Colton Huntt provided the power the Alton River Dragons needed in a 6-3 victory over the Quincy Gems Monday night.

Mike Hampton drilled a two-run homer and finished with two hits and three RBI. Meanwhile, Colton Huntt earned the victory tossing six quality innings allowing two runs on five hits and six strikeouts.

All of this surrounded a 42 minute delay in the top of the fifth when all the power in the stadium went out.

The win is the third straight for the River Dragons and their first winning streak of the second half.  They'll look to extend the streak further on Tuesday when they take on the Prospect League's overall leader the Danville Dans on the road.

Alton took the lead in the second after Jake Nelson led off with a single and Hampton followed with a blast to right field.

Quincy tied the score shortly after the power outage delay in the fifth.  However, the River Dragons answered in the home half of the inning.  After Blake Burris led off with his league leading sixth triple, Eddie King Jr. doubled him home and it was 3-2.  Gunnar Doyle made it 4-2 with a ground out and Hampton added a RBI single and the score was 5-2.

Marcus Heusohn tacked on insurance with a bases loaded hit by pitch in the eighth and it was 6-2.

Quincy pulled tighter with a solo homer in the ninth but that was it in a 6-3 final.

Tank Hanslow followed Huntt tossing two scoreless before a controversial ninth inning homer chased him. Robby Taul picked up the game's final two outs.
