Miners Use Big Inning To Beat Paints, 10-8

FROM CHILLICOTHE:

BECKLEY, W.Va. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, dopped their first road test of the season, falling to the West Virginia Miners at Linda K Epling Stadium Saturday night 10-8.

Chillicothe (2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Santrel Farmer reached to leadoff the game on a bunt single. Josh McAlister walked and then the two advanced on a double-steal, putting runners at second and third with no outs. Jeron Williams hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Farmer for the game's first run. Tim Orr knocked home McAlister on a single, making it 2-0.

The lead was short-lived, as West Virginia (1-2) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on two hits and three walks to tie the game.

The Paints immediately regained the lead in the top of the second. After the first two batters were retired, Cameron Bowen reached on an infield single, then stole second, scoring on an RBI single by Farmer.

Once again, the lead was short lived. The Miners plated five runs on four hits, one Paints error, taking a 7-3 lead. They made it 9-3 with a pair of runs in the fourth off a two-run Zach Doss double.

Things got interesting in the sixth, as the Paints cut the lead to one with a five-run inning. Farmer collected his third hit of the game, this one a triple, scoring on ball put in play by McAlister, who reached on an error. With two outs, Tim Orr walked. Kade Wroot doubled, scoring McAlster and Orr. Wroot then scored on an RBI single from Mike Sprockett, making it a 9-8 ballgame.

West Virginia grabbed an insurance run in the sixth when a two-out wild pitch brought home Josh Griffin, who singled, stole second and reached third on a groundout. That completed the scoring for the night with the Miners winning 10-8.

The Paints and Miners play in Beckley again Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at Linda K Epling Stadium.
