Clinton Blasts Normal 16-1 In Shortened Game

CLINTON, Iowa - It was a successful return home for the Clinton LumberKings on Thursday night defeating the Normal CornBelters by the final score of 16-1, in a ballgame shortened by a lighting malfunction in the top half of the sixth inning.

Clinton scored in all five innings of the ball game. Big performances for Clinton came from Shortstop Luke Ira (South Dakota St) and Tommy Specht (Kentucky). Ira in the game had three hits and four RBIs for Clinton. Specht had two hits of his own and three RBIs.

On the mound, Jackson Kent (Arizona) continued his solid 2022 campaign. The lefty went four scoreless innings, allowed just one hit and struck out four.

In the top half of the sixth the lights on the third base side of the field went out and the game was put in a delay. After discussion both teams decided that for the safety of the players the game would be called and made official, giving Clinton the win 16-1.

The win puts Clinton (11-11) a half game over Normal (10-11) and into second place in the Great River Division behind the Quincy Gems (11-10).

The LumberKings are back in action tomorrow night, taking on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes at NelsonCorp Field.

First pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
