Springfield Tops Clinton In 14 Innings

Recap courtesy of Clinton:

CLINTON, Iowa - After over four hours the Clinton LumberKings and the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes finally decided on a winner. The Lucky Horseshoes got the win 3-2 in 14 innings.

It was another impressive outing for Clinton starter Jared Simpson (Iowa). In his fourth start of the season, Simpson went 5.1 Innings, struck out six and did not allow a single run to cross the plate. Simpson now has gone 17.2 innings without allowing a run for the LumberKings in 2022.

The lone two runs for Clinton came in the sixth inning. Luke Ira (South Dakota St) opened things up with Clinton's first home run of the season at NelsonCorp Field, a solo home run. Later in the inning Joe Simpson (Kirkwood CC) singled in a run giving Clinton a two-run advantage.

In the eighth the Lucky Horseshoes tied things. With two men on Jacob Compton (Memphis) singled in a pair.

In inning number nine with the bases loaded, Tyler Stern (Mount Mercy) came in for Clinton and pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Stern struck out three consecutive batters and kept the game tied at two. The righty ended up pitching three innings of relief, allowing no runs and striking out six.

Both clubs stayed tied until inning number 14. Springfield in the 14th frame scored the go ahead run when Dylan Nevar (Western Michigan) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Clinton couldn't answer and fell in 14 innings, 3-2.

The LumberKings and the Lucky Horseshoes will face off once again tomorrow night in Clinton, Iowa at NelsonCorp Field.
