Springfield Tops Clinton 2-0

CLINTON, Iowa - After 14 innings on Thursday night the Clinton LumberKings and Springfield Lucky Horseshoes would only need nine innings to decide a winner. The Lucky Horseshoes behind one inning of offense and solid pitching got the victory 2-0, taking both games in the series.
 
The lone two runs came in the top half of inning number four. Springfield's right fielder Dylan Nevar (Western Michigan) hit a solo home run to right off of Clinton starter Jacob Norris (Des Moines Area CC), giving the Lucky Horseshoes a 1-0 lead. Springfield tallied one more in the inning making it 2-0. 
 
Although Clinton couldn't muster any offense, Ben Beutel (Iowa) was sensational out of the bullpen. The lefty went 4.2 innings and struck out seven batters in the outing. This coming after Beutel was award a Gold Glove for best defensive college pitcher at the University of Iowa. 
 
Springfield starter Corbin Bassham (Illinois Springfield) got the win after six innings of scoreless work, allowing just two hits and walking three.
 
The LumberKings have one more game on the homestand, a matchup tomorrow afternoon against the Burlington Bees. 
 
It will be Copa Day at the ballpark, first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
