CLINTON, Iowa - The Clinton Elotes dropped their third straight game on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Burlington Bees 6-3 at NelsonCorp Field.

Burlington got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top half of the second inning. With the bases loaded the Bees capitalized. Brandon Bickford (Mount Mercy) was hit by a pitch driving in one. Later in the inning Sam Monroe (Southeastern CC) walked with the bases still loaded making it 2-0.

Clinton cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning. Joe Simpson (Kirkwood CC) singled in Jeremy Conforti (College of DuPage) making it 2-1. Simpson ended up going 3-4 at the plate on the day.

In the fifth the Elotes tied things up at two. Trevor Burkhart (LSU-Shreveport) started things off with a triple and Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) drove him in with a sac-fly to left.

In the sixth, Burlington would retake the lead with four runs in the inning. First it was an RBI double from Joey Fitzgerald Jr. (Harper College), followed by a Trey Adams (Northeastern Junior College) RBI single, which proved to be the winning hit. Burlington tallied two more in the inning making it 6-2.

Clinton scored one more run in the seventh but ultimately fell 6-3, losing on a Copa Day for the first time in 2022.

The Elotes now go on the road until next Monday. After two days off, their next game is Wednesday night against the Cape Catfish in Missouri.
