Seven-Run First Propels Paints To Win Over Miners

BECKLEY, W.Va. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, scored seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10-5 win over the West Virginia Miners in Beckley Friday night.

Chillicothe (12-9, 33-19) got things started with a leadoff single from Santrel Farmer. After Farmer stole second and Owen Wilson worked a walk, the Paints loaded the bases on a single by Kade Wroot. Brett Carson followed with a single, driving home Farmer and giving the Paints a 1-0 lead. With two outs, Jake Reifsnyder cleared the bases with a triple, making it 4-0. Nate Dorinsky doubled home Reifsnyder and, scoring on an RBI single by Gianni Passarelli, who scored on a throwing error by the Miners shortstop, making it 7-0.

West Virginia (7-11, 18-29) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Alex Christie reached on a leadoff walk, scoring on a double by Eddie León, cutting the Paints' lead to 7-1.

Chillicothe got that run back in the top of the fifth on Cameron Bowen's solo home run, his second of the season, making it 8-1.

The Miners again plated a run in the fifth, then scored twice in the sixth, bringing it to an 8-4 ballgame.

The Paints started the seventh with three straight singles from Wroot, Carson and Bowen, the latter an RBI hit, extending Chillicothe's lead to 9-4. 

They made it 10-4 on a sacrifice fly by Wroot that scored Farmer in the eighth, making it 10-4.

León homered for West Virginia on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth, finishing the scoring.

Chillicothe is home at VA Memorial Stadium Saturday night, hosting the Miners at 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans receive a Paints drawstring bag, courtesy of Printex Same-Day Printing.
