15 Hits Push LumberKings Past Bees

BURLINGTON, Iowa - After a lack of offense on Saturday night, in a loss against Burlington. the Clinton LumberKings offense rebounded with 15 hits in a victory on Sunday evening, defeating the Bees 9-3.
 
After falling behind 3-1, the LumberKings responded in a big way. Luke Ira (South Dakota St) hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, knotting the game up in the top half of the third. Ira ended up with three RBIs and three hits on the night.
 
The winning run came across for Clinton in the fifth inning. Matt Scherrman (UW-Oshkosh) sprinted home on a wild pitch, giving the LumberKings a 4-3 lead.
 
Clinton continued to pile on throughout. Scherrman, Ira and Taeg Gollert (Missouri St) all had three hits on the night, and the LumberKings bullpen was lights out.
 
Nolan Frey (Mount Mercy), Cole Conner (Oakton CC) and Taeg Gollert combined to go seven scoreless innings in relief, striking out six and allowing just two base hits.
 
The LumberKings won the game 9-3 and now head back home tomorrow night to continue the series against Burlington, in a matchup on Independence Day.
